How to check Crawl Stats By file type in Google search console

The Crawl Stats report shows data about Google's crawling activity on your website. For example, how many requests were made and when, your server's response time, and any availability issues detected. This report can be used to see if Google encounters any server difficulties while scanning your site.

Concerning About the Data

All URLs displayed and counted are the actual URLs requested by Google; data is not attributed to canonical URLs like some other reports do.

If a URL contains a server-side redirect, each request in the redirect chain is treated separately. If Google requests page 1, it will notice separate queries for page 1 (returns 301/302), page 2 (returns 301/302), and page 3 (hopefully returns 200). It should be noted that only pages from the current domain are displayed. The file type of a redirect response is "Other file type." Client-side redirection is not taken into account.

Before utilizing this report, you should be aware of the following information:

1. The extended version of how Google Search works.
2. Advanced topics, such as crawling and indexing, and sitemaps.
3. Several issues with managing site access, including robots.txt blocking.
4. Here's a guide on managing and debugging your crawl budget if you have a huge site (hundreds of thousands of pages).

The type of file returned by the request. The percentage figure for each kind represents the percentage of that type's replies, not the percentage of bytes retrieved by that type.

Possible file type values:

1. HTML

2. Image

3. Video - One of the supported video formats.

4. JavaScript

5. CSS

6. PDF

7. Other XML - An XML file not including RSS, KML, or any other formats built on top of XML.

8. JSON

9. Syndication - An RSS or Atom feed

10. Audio

11. Geographic data - KML or other geographic data.

12. Other file types - Another file type is not specified here. Redirects are included in this grouping.

13. Unknown (Failed) - If the request fails, the file type isn't known.
